Photorejuvenation in Dublin – Venus Medical

Photorejuvenation of your skin is done using light energy. This treatment can help correct some common skin concerns and facial imperfections that develop due to sun exposure over the years, for example, sun damage, age spots, sun spots, brown spots, blotchiness, pigmented lesions, acne scarring, enlarged pores, rosacea (facial flushing), melasma, birth marks, spider veins, broken veins, broken capillaries (visible blood vessels), wrinkles, and stretch marks.
At Venus Medical, we offer minimally-invasive photorejuvenation treatments with V Beam and NdYAG laser for treating common age-related skin conditions. These treatments give you the clear, even-toned, smooth textured complexion you’ve always wanted but haven’t been able to achieve with skin care products alone. Each photorejuvenation session takes 15-45 minutes.

Benefits
- The treatment is quick and easy with a recovery time of 2 hours. You can drive yourself home and return to work immediately after this low-risk yet effective treatment. Your skin may be pink for 1-2 hours after the treatment, sometimes a little longer in people with lots of redness pre-treatment. You can wear makeup or tinted SPF the next day. Note that brown spots may darken slightly before fading.
- V Beam laser addresses common skin concerns like redness, brown spots, blood vessels, rosacea, and active acne, giving you a naturally beautiful complexion. Laser treatments are superior to intense pulsed light IPL treatments because a laser beam is more focused and powerful. Laser light has a single wavelength that targets a specific color (red or brown) in contrast to an IPL handpiece which emits broad-spectrum light energy with many wavelengths.
- Photorejuvenation treatments with V Beam and NdYAG lasers are non-ablative, which means they do not peel the skin.
- Cutera NdYAG Laser Genesis treatment targets deeper layers of your skin to improve skin texture, smoothness, enlarged pores, and scarring.
- The treatments are suitable for most skin types. Our long-pulsed NdYAG laser can be used on all skin types, even black skin.
- Photorejuvenation treatments are virtually painless. Most people tolerate them well. An anesthetic cream may be applied but is not generally administered or required.
- Photorejuvenation can be combined with other treatments like microdermabrasion and chemical peels to improve both the deeper layers of skin as well as the skin surface.
- Photorejuvenation is commonly done on the face, but we can also use it to treat other areas such as the neck, chest, or hands.
How we do photorejuvenation

Dark Glasses
You are given dark glasses to protect your eyes.

Minimal access
Our experienced aesthetician or aesthetic nurse first cleans the skin. Unlike IPL, messy gels or cold gel does not need to be applied to the treatment area. Anaesthetic cream is also not required for the laser facial.

Laser
We place the laser handpiece on your skin and allow the powerful pulses of light to do their work. This can feel like mild warmth or a slight sting. We sometimes use our cold air device to maximise comfort.

Go home
You go home immediately after the treatment.

Frequently asked questions
Photorejuvenation can be very good for your skin. When your skin absorbs the light energy, it causes minor injuries in the target area. This prompts your skin to renew and repair itself by stimulating cell regeneration and collagen production. The new collagen gives your skin a softer, smoother, and more youthful appearance. The result is healthier skin that glows from within.
IPL treatment uses broadband light (multiple wavelengths) whereas the V Beam laser uses a single wavelength of light. This makes V Beam more effective in targeting facial flushing, facial redness, and pigmented lesions like brown spots and red spots. Because it targets a more precise area, V beam skin rejuvenation has a shorter recovery time compared to IPL.
At Venus Medical, we use the NdYAG laser from Cutera to improve the appearance and texture of your skin. For sun damaged skin we usually use our fractional CO2 laser. The NdYAG photorejuvenation treatment targets deeper layers of skin, so it not only improves surface imperfections but also skin tone, texture, smoothness, pores, and scarring. NdYAG laser also has other uses such as hair removal in dark skin types.
How many sessions of laser photorejuvenation you need depends on your skin type, the condition being treatment, and the severity of your skin concerns. Some people see visible effects such as reduced redness from rosacea or less visible spider veins after just one V beam treatment. Others may need up to 4 sessions to achieve optimal results. We monitor improvement with our Antera3D quantitative imaging camera.
It’s important to note that the lasers work by targeting pigmented skin cells and blood vessels below the skin’s surface. Therefore, most patients see gradual improvement in their skin after these laser treatments. The full results of the treatment are visible several weeks after the photorejuvenation session. We can give you a more accurate timeline for the expected results after your consultation. In general, you can expect excellent long-term results from laser photorejuvenation treatments. Many people choose Everyderm for ongoing maintenance treatments.
Generally, the results of an Nd:YAG laser photofacial treatments last anywhere from several months to a year. However, it’s important to note that the treatment does not stop the natural aging process or prevent new skin concerns from forming. Therefore, maintenance photorejuvenation treatments may be necessary to help you keep your results.
To make your photorejuvenation results last longer, make sure you practice good skin care habits. Avoid sun exposure as much as possible and wear sunscreen every day to minimize sun damage.
V Beam laser treatment targets the pigment in dark spots, causing it to break up and be absorbed by the body. However, if the underlying cause of the dark spots or pigmentation is not addressed, such as excess sun exposure or hormonal imbalances, new dark spots may form over time.
To minimize the risk of dark spots returning after V Beam laser treatment, we recommend that you address the underlying cause of the spots. This may include wearing sunscreen daily, avoiding excessive sun exposure, using topical treatments to reduce pigmentation, and addressing any hormonal imbalances with medical treatment. V Beam is useful for obvious individual brown spots or freckles – for diffuse pigmentation you may be advised a chemical peel or fractional CO2 laser resurfacing.
The cost of NdYAG and V Beam laser treatments in Dublin, Ireland, ranges between €250 and €450 per session. Your total cost will depend on the number of sessions you need. Do not give in to the temptation of choosing cheap photorejuvenation treatments. While laser treatments are very safe when done by a trained professional, they can cause serious damage in the wrong hands, including skin irritation, pigmentation changes, scarring, infections, and eye injuries.
We will provide a detailed pricing for your photorejuvenation treatment either during an in-clinic consultation or through MeTime if you decide to have a remote assessment based on your photos and your expectations. We do have monthly treatment plans as part of our Everyderm subscription programme which reduces cost to as little as €159 per month. Our clinic manager will be happy to discuss options with you.
