SAFETY & STANDARDS
Safety is our number one priority at Venus Medical. No cosmetic procedure, no matter how minimally invasive, is without risks. Everything we do at Venus Medical considers safety as primary: the preoperative assessment, assessment of any existing medical conditions and medications, the type of anaesthesia used, the products and techniques employed, and the facility itself. During the consultation, our doctors discuss with you the risks versus benefits of treatment, rare though they might be, so you can make an informed decision before proceeding.
Following cosmetic surgery at Venus Medical, you will have 24 hours per day support from our medical team for any questions or concerns.
Our medical director, Peter Prendergast, is actively involved in developing standards in aesthetic services. He contributed to the elaboration of European CEN standards (CEN TC403), but also identifies shortcomings in this and other proposed standards that put little emphasis on procedure-specific training in aesthetic medicine and cosmetic surgery. He is working with European colleagues who have already made progress in having aesthetic medicine identified as a distinct field of medical practice, for example in Belgium and the Netherlands. Dr Prendergast also founded the European College of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery in 2008 to promote and provide training in cosmetic surgery for many medical and surgical specialties, including plastic surgery, gynecology, maxillofacial surgery, dermatology and ophthalmology.
